PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Pervez Khattak here Wednesday demanded inexpensive and smooth supply of electricity to the province and massive cut in load-shedding to ease difficulties of the consumers.
Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Pervez Khattak made this demand while leading a protest demonstration against excessive power outages in KP and entered the Wapda House despite the barriers around it.
Most of the demonstrators were workers and leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while dozens of activists of Jumaat e Islami also participated.
The protest demo started from Karnal Sher Khan Stadium (Army Stadium) Khyber Road and marched up to Wapda House Peshawar.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the province was getting only 1,300 megawatts (MW) instead to 2,000 MW.
Khattak demanded that cheap electricity be supplied to KP and massive cut in load-shedding.
He said it was necessary that Wapda should solve the issue of load shedding as quickly as possible and provide relief to masses, if it wanted cooperation from his government.
On July 13, Pervez Khattak had vowed to lead demonstration to Wapda House Peshawar on this day if the issue of prolonged and widespread load-shedding was not resolved.
He had claimed the provincial government could eliminate the electricity shortage if the Centre handed over the control of power supply to KP.
