ISLAMABAD: Former Test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz feels sending Muhammad Hafeez on number 3 disturbs the whole batting order saying he should bat as opener.
Pakistan won the first ODI against South Africa by 23 runs on November 24. Pakistan will play its second ODI on Wednesday (November 27).
Talking to APP, Sarfraz Nawaz said the reason for Hafeez not scoring runs is the number at which he plays. "Nasir Jamshed is not in good form and I feel he should be rested in the remaining ODIs," he said.
Sarfraz further said talented youngster Sohaib Maqsood should be sent at Number 3 instead of 4. "Umar Akmal should be sent at Number 4 followed by Misbah ul Haq at number 5, Umar Amin at number 6," he said adding that if Umar Amin doesn't perform then Asad Shafiq should be given chance.
He said that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been wasting the brilliant middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq by not including him in the team. "Shahid Afridi should also be sent at number 9 as he is considered as a bowler now rather than a batsman," he said.
Sarfraz while praising performances of Bilawal Bhatti and Anwar Ali said the board should give maximum number of chances to the youngsters as they are the ones who will be running the team in the near future. "Aged players should be rested now," he said.
Talking about Waqar Younis likely to become the next coach of the national team, Sarfraz said the board should bring in a new face now and not those who have been part of the cricket team in the past.
