LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Monday stayed an election tribunal from proceeding on PTI leader Imran Khan's petition for a vote recount in NA-122.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan passed the order on a petition filed by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker National Assembly, against an order of the election tribunal.
The court also issued notices to Imran Khan and other respondents for November 15.
Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that the petitioner was elected as Member National Assembly from NA-122 in general elections 2013.
However, PTI leader Imran Khan, a rival candidate, filed an election petition under Section 52 of the People's Representation Act 1976 before an election tribunal and impleaded other contesting candidates besides the petitioner. He submitted that the petitioner filed a reply in the matter and also objected through an application that no list of witnesses was annexed with the petition and witnesses' affidavits had not been sworn in according to the law.
He said that the tribunal instead of calling a reply framed issues and refused to decide questions raised, through an order.
He pleaded the court to set aside the orders passed by the election tribunal.
The court after hearing the arguments stopped the election tribunal from proceeding on Imran Khan's plea and issued notices for November 15 to all respondents.
