imageLONDON: Popular British trio Sister by Sibling took their inspiration from 1950s America at London Fashion Week on Saturday, but their perky collection would have had many of those suburban housewives choking over their tupperware.

Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Cozette McCreery created an image of "domestic glamour" with pastel colours and classic swing coats, oversized jerseys and pencil skirts, accessorised with fluffy stilettos and big hair.

But these clothes are for women with a sense of humour, and they wore pink sweaters bearing the words 'Lead Sister' and 'Happy' tucked into tiny denim shorts, and loose knit skirts and tops left very little to the imagination.

Across town, in an artist's studio in a backstreet in Soho, Orla Kiely also turned to a traditional image of womanhood for her spring / summer collection -- the girl guides.

Models clad in cute animal-print outfits, long socks and berets engaged in badge-worthy activities such as camping and painting against a backdrop of the African savannah.

They wore little dresses, skirts and hot pants with safari pockets and bearing the Irish designer's trademark prints, of zebras, lions, giraffes and rhinos.

"We started off wanting to do a bit of a safari, 1970s, girl guide thing," Kiely told AFP, adding: "It's kind of cute."
