RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Tuesday reserved its judgment over a plea seeking judicial order against the entry fee being collected from visitors at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad and action against irregularities committed in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Justice Ejaz Ahmed was hearing the petition filed by Raja Saim-ul-Haq in which Chairman, Director General and Manager of CAA, Chairman Competitive Commission of Pakistan (CCP), Contractors collecting airport entry and car parking fees were made party.
During arguments, the petitioner who is also advocate pleaded that collecting entry fee and exorbitant car parking fee was illegal and unlawful."The CAA is not authorized to collect tax/duty in the name of fee without sanction of Federal Board of Revenue."
He also requested the court to take appropriate action constituting a high level inquiry committee to look into irregularities in aircraft procurement pointed out by Accountant General of Pakistan in a recent report.
The defence counsel apprised the court that the entry fee was being charged to generate income, discourage entry of irrelevant persons and enhance security at the airport.
He also submitted a written reply over the alleged irregularities in procurement of two flight inspection aircraft.
The court heard the arguments from the both sides and reserved its verdict.
