interpol-headquartersKARACHI: Interpol has arrested former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman Tauqir Sadiq in Abu Dhabi and handed him over to the Pakistani authorities in Dubai, the media reported on Wednesday.

 

Earlier, it was reported that the Punjab police team that went to Nepal to nab Sadiq but returned empty handed. The police team said that accused Tauqir Sadiq involved in billions of rupees corruption is now staying in Sharjah.

 

According to Punjab police, Sadiq is accused of being involved in Rs80 billion corruption, holds a diplomatic passport and therefore, can travel anywhere.

 

The former OGRA chairman is also said to be a close relative of PPP general secretary Jahangir Badr and was staying in Nepal.

A three-member police team was sent to Kathmandu on December 27.

 

However, the police could not arrest the accused as he had left Kathmandu a day earlier for Sharjah.
