imagePESHAWAR: Pakistan secured 3rd position behind host India and Sri Lanka in the 3rd edition of the South Asian Karate Championship concluded in New Delhi, India by winning three gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals.

Talking to APP, national team coach and double SAF Gold Medalist Khalid Noor, disclosed that the players of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Baz Muhammad Khan also bagged gold medal in plus 80kg weight category with teams from South Asian Countries including host India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives took part.

He said host India took first position, followed by Sri Lanka at second and Pakistan recorded third position in the prestigious event.

He said Pakistan's Baz Muhammad Khan, hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, won gold medal and two silver medals. Kalsoom, a female player of Pakistan, hailing from Hazara Region, won one gold, one silver, Naseer Ahmad grabbed one silver, Ibrahim Ismail claimed two silver medals and two bronze medal, Nargis won one silver and two bronze medal while Quratul Ann won one silver medal.

He disclosed that Commonwealth and Asian Games medalist Sadi Abbas won two silver medal, Isra Ul Haq got three silver medal, Jawad won two silver medals and in Women category Benish Akbar took two silver medal, Shahida three bronzes, Naz Gul one silver and two bronze respectively.

He said besides winning third position, Pakistan's Muhammad Jehangir, who is also President Pakistan Karate Federation, elected as General Secretary of the South Asian Karate Association in the election meeting held along with the Championship. Mr. Naseem Qurashi of Pakistan was elected as members of the Asian Referee Commission.

Khalid Noor said that he also won qualification as Referee Course Conductor of the South Asian Association. He said Pakistan has fielded 41 members contingent initially but the Indian Govt only granted visa to 18 members and despite all, Pakistan team have giving remarkable performance in the international event.

He said the team crossed over to India through Wagah border and backed on the same. He said if India granted visa to our all contingent, we could have beat India. He said Baz Muhammad and Kashif, have won two gold medal each in 2013 editions.
