Pakistan's out of favour opener Ahmed Shehzad decided to return home to Lahore from the ongoing national T20 championship after he was not in the Pakistan squad announced for the T20 match against England in Manchester on September 7.
"Obviously I remain disappointed that I am not in the Pakistan squad but the reason for me leaving the national T20 was a back strain that I suffered during the event," Shehzad told the local media on Monday.
He said that he had already been called to the national cricket academy for an examination and rehabilitation for his back strain."The back strain was the reason I couldn’t carry on any longer in the national event where I was leading the Lahore team," he said.
"Having played for Pakistan every time I can't make the squad I am disappointed as every professional player should be. But to say I left the national T20 because of this is not unfair and false," he claimed.
Earlier, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq on Friday also made it clear that Shehzad and Umar Akmal were still not in the running for a recall as the feeling was that they still needed to work harder on their cricket discipline and attitude.
Shehzad, 24, who has played 11 Tests, 77 ODIs and 44 T20 matches for Pakistan, has been ignored alongside Umar Akmal by the national selectors for the entire England tour.
