imageJOHANNESBURG: South Africa's Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has been contacted by police, a Treasury spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday, after a media report said he had been summoned by an elite police investigation unit.

An online news service said Gordhan had been told to report to the Hawks police unit regarding investigations into a rogue unit set up at the revenue service while he was its head.

"Indeed minister received correspondence from the Hawks yesterday.

He's currently taking legal advice and therefore reserving comment at this stage," Treasury spokeswoman Phumza Macanda said in response to questions from Reuters.
