Nigeria's number two cellular network said on Saturday it would trade as Vmobile after a brief partnership with Africa's leading operator crashed this week.
South African operator Vodacom said on Monday it pulled out of Vee Networks, formerly Econet Wireless Nigeria (EWN), over corporate governance concerns and lack of proper control of the company, ending moves by the Nigerian operator to become a member of the Vodacom group.
But in a statement, the Nigerian company said it was putting the matter behind it to face the task of building its network.
"The board of directors of Vee Networks Ltd met in Lagos on Thursday, June 3, 2004, and approved Vmobile as the company's new trading name," the statement said.
EWN became Vee Networks on April 1 when it signed a five-year management contract with Vodacom after the departure of Johannesburg-based Econet Wireless International (EWI), its founding technical partner.
The split between them was over EWN's invitation to Vodacom to take over the company last year.
