imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered formation of a larger bench to hear Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Omar Ayub's review petition in NA-19 (Haripur) case.

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali ordered formation of a larger bench and issued notices to all the respondents in the case.

The chief justice remarked that the petitioner has raised an important legal point so the matter was referred to larger bench. He remarked that Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed would be included in the larger bench as both judges were part of the bench which heard the case.

Later, hearing of the case was adjourned for two-weeks.

It is to mention that Umar Ayub had filed a review petition against the apex court's verdict that unseated him from the National Assembly constituency NA-19 Haripur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in June last year.

Last year, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, had unseated Omar Ayub on a review petition moved by PTI candidate Dr Raja Aamer Zaman against the court's March 7, 2014 judgement.

The decision was a two-to-one verdict, with Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed dissenting. The main verdict was written by Justice Khawaja.

Dr Raja Zaman was declared the returned candidate during the 2013 general election from the NA-19 constituency after securing 116,979 votes against Ayub`s 114,807. A recount was ordered, but Dr Zaman remained the successful candidate, though his original victory margin of 2,172 was reduced to 1,304.

Later, Ayub challenged the result before an election tribunal, which, in its judgment on Dec 31, 2013, ordered re-polling at seven stations instead of declaring the election void.

The tribunal`s order was challenged by Dr Zaman before the apex court, which dismissed the same. Afterwards, he filed a review petition against the judgment, which was accepted and his opponent was de-seated.
