imageLAHORE: Federal Board of Revenue, (FBR) and its field offices implemented 88.75 per cent decisions of the Federal Tax Ombudsman.

According to FTO annual report 2014 published recently, FTO secretariat received a total of 1624 complaints last year compared to 1898 in 2013 of which 1548 were decided during the period under review.

A total of 1374 decisions were implemented by the FBR and its field offices. The remaining were either challenged before the President of Pakistan and through review/representation. About tax wise percentage, 51.40 % complaints were related to income tax and 33% sales tax while 13.50 % customs duty.

Lahore based taxpayers filed the highest number of complaints with the FTO followed by Lahore and Fasialabad.

FTO Secretariat headed by Chaudhary Abdur Rauf set a record by disposing of complaints at an average of 52 days which includes reply from FBR, rejoinder, holding of hearing, investigation and preparation of draft for order.

The trend indicates that Advisors to FTO had been more careful in investigating complaints due to upgraded skill-sets for distinguishing the genuineness from the frivolous complaints.

FTO has emerged as a forum where the services of any counsel or court fee is not required. Complaint can be filed on a plain paper through post, fax, email and prompt action is initiated.

Qualified retired civil servants having experience in taxation were appointed at all regional offices and FTO Chaudhary Abdur Rauf monitors the overall monthly performance of the all regional offices.
