imageMULTAN: Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) President Mian Iqbal Hassan on Tuesday said that new international airport in Multan would increase trade and benefit over 40 million population of Southern Punjab.

Talking to APP here, he said the government has performed a commendable job by providing a state-of-the-art international airport, adding that it was right time to encourage establishment of industrial units, producing value added products to extract maximum advantages out of the facility.

He said business activities would be increased significantly with the commencement of commercial flights' operations from the new airport.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had formally inaugurated Multan International Airport on Monday after its completion, he added.

Mian Iqbal said "if we produce one million cattle heads in next three years then we will start earning Rs. 90 billion in foreign exchange annually only from the export of certified Halal meat".

Former MCCI president Khawaja Usman requested the federal government to build a cold storage of sizable capacity near the airport to ensure export of fresh fruit and vegetables direct to the lucrative markets from Multan.
