imageLAHORE: Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said the government has posted well reputed, talented and hardworking officers in the Railways.

Addressing the participants of the 16th Midcareer Management Course Peshawar at PR Headquarters here on Wednesday, he said the best officer worked for the state not for politicians.

He added that officers should only work for welfare of the state istead of their personal interests.

He said honest officers had been given free hand so that they could appoint such workers who could work for the betterment of the department.

The minister said the present administration had raised income of the PR without any additional expenditures and ensured train operation according to a timetable, adding that such reforms had been introduced in the department which would be helpful in reducing deficit of the department.

Responding to questions of the participants, he said loan was being got for the Karachi Circular Railways for a period of 40 years on soft conditions and it would be reconstructed with the cooperation of the Sindh government.

The minister said the PR was working on metro train in Lahore and Peshawar, adding dialogues were under process with the concerned governments.

He said number of locomotives for goods trains had been increased from eight to 25 since he had taken over the charge.

The minister said the department had reduced train fares for five times and the fare would be reviewed after every three months.

He said the PR did not facing over-staffing and nobody would be sacked from the department.

Later, the participants presented a shield to the minister.
