The Karachi Port handled 172,951 tonnes of cargo comprising 117,726 tonnes of import cargo and 55,225 tonnes of export cargo including 7,605 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargos of 117,726 tonnes comprised of 74,404 tonnes of containerised cargo; 13,998 tonnes of DPA; 2,442 tonnes of ammonium sulphate; 3,013 tonnes of yellow peas; 1,996 tonnes of canola and 21,873 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 55,225 tonnes comprised of 28,600 tonnes of containerised cargo; 19,725 tonnes of clinkers and 6,900 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,605 containers comprising of 5,485 containers import and 2,120 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,613 of 20's and 1,781 of 40's loaded while 32 of 20's and 139 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 789 of 20's and 306 of 40's loaded containers while 141 of 20's and 289 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely CMA CGM Racine, Wieland, Sea Power and Theodosia carrying containers, oil tanker and mogas respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. YM Excellence, Wan Hai-611, Wieland, Botany Bay, MT Karachi and Al Mahboobah carrying containers, oil tanker and chemicals respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 200,441 tonnes comprising 159,640 tonnes of import cargo and 40,801 tonnes of export cargo including 3,800 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 159,640 tonnes includes 39,776 tonnes of LNG; 38,984 tonnes of coal; 11,000 tonnes of soyabean; 6,780 tonnes of palm oil; 8,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 55,100 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 40,801 tonnes includes 8,558 tonnes of cement, 15,143 tonnes of crude oil and 17,100 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,800 containers comprising of 2,900 containers import and 900 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were three ships namely Great Praise, Gaslog Saratoga and Maritime Suzanne carrying coal, LNG and palm oil respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships namely Maersk Chicago and Ginga Ocelot carrying containers and chemical respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten vessels were occupied berths to load/offload containers, soyabean, coal, cement, phosphoric acid, LNG, crude oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as five vessels viz. Han Ren, Sakizaya Hero, Tegea, Sea Champion and Melati-3 carrying general cargo, canola, cement, coal and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four ships viz. MOL Generosity, Han Ren, Sea Champion and Melati-3 carrying containers, general cargo, coal and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There was one ship namely MOL Genrosity carrying containers due to arrive on Wednesday, while two more ships namely Kyoto Express and Hansa America carrying containers are due to arrive on Thursday.
