ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday said the government was taking measures to ease and accelerate trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan through the Torkham border.
The president, in a meeting with a delegation of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, said all-out efforts would be made for the restoration of Peshawar-Torkham railway, according to a President House press release.
He viewed that peace in Afghanistan would help enhance trade link with the two neighbouring countries that would also be beneficial for the SCCI.
He said the government was alive to the issues confronting the business community and would strive for their resolution. The president told the delegation that increasing the exports and decreasing the imports was among the priorities of government that was also trying to create a conducive atmosphere for the businesses.
He said the progress of Pakistan was linked with the cooperation between the public and private sectors. Moreover, enhancing the tax net was inevitable to eliminate the budget deficit, he added.
