imageISLAMABAD: The legislators both from treasury and opposition in National Assembly Tuesday termed the ongoing protest of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) as political terrorism and vowed to protect the constitution and democratic system.

The Lower House of the Parliament resumed the debate on the situation emerged after the sit-ins of PTI and PAT. The legislators were united that the electoral system would be made transparent and answerable.

Most of the legislators were in consensus that the unconstitutional and anti democratic adventures would be resisted.

Initiating the debate Abdul Rahim Mandokhel of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) said that the parliament should resolve the issues with PTI and PAT amicably. It was regrettable that a mob has gathered here and trying to derail the democracy, he added.

He said during the budget session, the economic condition of the country was discussed. PTI holding protest demonstration had also participated in the budget.

MandoKhel said it was unfortunate that some parties were demanding the government to step down through illegal means, a bad precedent was being set.

He urged the government to punish the sloganeers of Inquilab (Revolution) chanting persons. Such slogans are against country's interests.

It was the responsibility of the whole nation and parliamentarians to protect the democracy and constitution. "We have an agreement that no one would be allowed to harm the democracy and constitution", he added.

He said a 33 member parliamentary committee has already been constituted for consensus electoral reforms. He urged the parliament to play its role in protecting the rule of law, democracy and constitution.

Imran Zafar Leghari said democracy has been restored in the country after great sacrifices. He said PPP is with the democracy, parliament and constitution.

He said parliament is the right forum to discuss the issue being confronted by the country. He asked the protesters to focus Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for bringing change. PTI should make KPK a role model for other provinces.

"What kind of celebration PTI is making, when 15 to 18 persons were killed in rainstorms in Peshawar the other day, a person violating constitution should not be allowed to land in Pakistan", he added.

He asked chief of Pakistan Awami Tehrrek Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri to hold dialogue with political parties. Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri is pushing foreign agenda, he alleged.

He said PPP was committed to follow Charter of Democracy (CoD) inked between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Shaheed Banzir Bhutto.

Parliament is supreme institution of the country in which all issues should be discussed and he urged the government to hold talks with PAT and PTI.
