imageISLAMABAD: The import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) would provide a big saving to the country in view of lower petrol imports.

An official of ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources told APP that the import of LNG in transport sector will save billions per annum, generate jobs, protect industry and ensure a clean environment, besides providing cheaper fuel to consumers.

He said the initiative would ensure uninterrupted supply of CNG to consumers. He said that initially 300 MMCFD (million cubic feet per day) of LNG will be imported and after six months the import volume will be increased to 400 MMCFD, he added.

He said the electricity generation from LNG will cost Pakistan less compared to the power production from diesel.

The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector will directly import the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) after which no CNG station would face closure," he said.
