imagePESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakthunkhwaw Government has planned to establish small industrial estates in Abbottabad, Dargai and Hattar in Haripur district besides establishment of a vocational university where students of Fata and overseas Pakistani would also be given admission to promote trade, commerce and vocational education to cater the ever growing demands of skilled manpower.

Rehabilitation of existing Sarhad Industrial Development Board (SIDB), small industrial estates at D.I. Khan, Bannu, Kohat and Mansehra and establishment of Mineral Based Industrial Estate (MBIE) at Chitral have been planned by the KP Govt for current fiscal year 2014-15 primarily focusing on economic revitalization in the militancy hit province.

Gigantic projects such as provision of equipments, tools and furniture to an existing Govt Polytechnic Institute (GPI), Govt College for Technology (GCT) and Construction of auditorium in Govt College of Management Science (GCMS) Peshawar were also in pipeline that after completion would not only create jobs opportunities in and outside of the country but would also alleviate poverty, officials sources in Industries Department told APP on Tuesday.

Establishment of Govt Technical and Vocational Centre (GTVC) at Shawa Swabi and Akbar Pura Nowshera, GPI at Tehkal Peshawar and Tor Ghar are also being mulled.

To support growth of locally and internationally competitive industries, generating employment and technological up-gradation besides catering demands of industrial units, he said the govt has planned to setup Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technical University most probably in Peshawar where students of the overseas Pakistani and Fata would also be given admission in technologies of their choice on merit.

He said expertise of UET Peshawar would also be utilized for preparation of curriculum and training of staff for the technical university.

Thus, the students of KP will not go to other provinces for higher studies once the university was established and will save their time and money as well.

In addition to feasibility study for establishment of Industrial Estate at District Karak and Kohat, the KP Govt has accorded full attention to public sector to ensure creation of business enabling environment for private sector to grow and prosper besides ensuing economic activity on sustainable basis in areas hit by militancy.

The Govt is also according high priority to revival of sick industrial units in the province, he said, adding out of 2365 industrial units, 476 units have been closed due to various reasons while several operational units did not produce production of its capacity due to energy shortfall and expensive raw materials etc.

To meet the increasing demand for skilled workers in various production and services sectors of the province, he said the technical education and manpower department will concentrate on establishing polytechnic institutes, commerce colleges, technical and vocational institutes through its ongoing and new projects across the province.

The completion of these projects will lead to an economic growth besides increasing employment opportunities leading to poverty reduction and increase in earnings and income of people ultimately.
