(Karachi) Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood has said that there will be no exams for grades nine and 11 and all students will be promoted to next classes.

Addressing a media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, he said that the step has been taken in wake of the lockdown and coronavirus situation in the country.

He said students in class 10 and 12 will be promoted based on their performance in class nine and 11. "They include regular as well as private students. Students will not need to give composite exam next year; rather they will give one year exam,2 he elaborated.

The marks of their previous class will be awarded based on their performance in next class, he mentioned.

He said students who failed in 40 percent subjects will be given passing marks. The minister pointed out that class 11 students will be given three percent additional marks.

He said those students who are not satisfied with their results will be able to sit for special exams and they should notify the board by July 1. "These will be held in September or November depending on when the situation improves."
