(Karachi) Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Health Zafar Mirza said that 65 per cent people who contracted the coronavirus disease are between the age of 21 to 50 years. "
Addressing a media briefing in Islamabad on Friday, he said that 78 per cent patients of coronavirus are males. "It is a wrong perception that the virus does not affect young people," Mirza remarked.
He said the total number of people infected with coronavirus has reached 4,601. "The number of people infected with coronavirus is less than the expected number." He revealed that 66 people have died of the disease so far across the country while condition of some patients is critical.
He said that 727 people have recovered from the disease.
"It has been observed that coronavirus patients are not being treated fairly which is disheartening." It is the responsibility of the society to dispel the negative impression about coronavirus patients, the special assistant said.
He said the government is making efforts to increase corona testing services across the country. " Zafar mentioned, "It is need of the hour to take precautionary measures and exercise social distancing to curb the outbreak."
Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to PM on National Security Dr Moeed Yusuf said that the government has closed the Torkham border which was opened for three days on the request of the Afghan government.
"Trucks will carry items three days a week from Pakistan to Afghanistan,"Moeed mentioned.
He added that all kinds of transport and travelling from Pakistan to Afghanistan has been banned. He said that special flights continue to operate and the Pakistan International Airlines will bring back more stranded Pakistanis from abroad next week.
