Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday welcomed the US President, Donald Trump's, repeated offer of mediation on Kashmir, describing it as a negation of Indian narrative on Kashmir being its "internal issue".

In a statement, Qureshi said that the US President, Donald Trump's, offer of mediation on Kashmir in the perspective of the critical situation prevailing in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, was a negation of New Delhi's narrative.

He pointed out that as promised with Prime Minister Imran Khan, the US president reiterated his offer of mediation between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir dispute, adding that Trump also discussed Kashmir issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to India.

Qureshi said that the US president also appreciated Pakistan's successful counterterrorism operations, adding that Trump also categorically stated in presence of a big public gathering that Imran Khan was his friend and Pakistan had defeated terrorism pursuing the best strategy.

He said that the Indian media tried to use President Trump's press conference for its own objectives but the US president appreciated Pakistan's efforts against terrorism.

Referring to the ongoing riots in India, the foreign minister said that Pakistan had been stating for a long time that Muslims had been facing insecurity and persecution in India, adding that more than 10 people had been killed in riots in New Delhi during the last two days.

He said that buildings, petrol pumps and business centers belonging to Muslims had been set alight, adding that the world community should take notice of the situation.

On the instruction of Prime Minister Khan, the foreign minister also chaired a meeting on media strategy, the Foreign Office said, adding that the meeting decided to appraise the world about better peace and stability in the country under a multi-faceted media strategy.

It was also decided to highlight Pakistan's positive role in the region and the world.

Speaking on the occasion, Qureshi said that the world should be informed about the better opportunities emerging in the diplomatic, political, economic, and tourism perspectives.

He said that Pakistan's positive contributions to the regional and international peace should also be highlighted.
