Combined income groups: SPI inflation up 0.21 percent WoW

Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) based weekly inflation for the combined income groups during the week ended February 6 increased by 0.21 percent against the week ended January 30, 2020. The SPI on an annual basis went up by 17.58 percent, said SPI data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistic.

The SPI on Week on Week (WoW) basis for the week under review for combined income groups was recorded at 131.35 points against 131.08 percent of the preceding week, the PBS revealed. The PBS further revealed that on Year on Year (YoY) basis SPI for the combine income group went up by 17.58 percent from 111.71 points to 131.35 points.

The weekly SPI is collected with base year 2015-16 covering 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

The SPI for the lowest income group with monthly income up of Rs 17,732 witnessed an increase of 0.48 percent from 134.06 points to 134.70 points on WoW basis and on YoY basis it went up by 16.18 percent from 115.94 points to 134.70 points, the PBS added.

For the income group of Rs 17,732-22,888 weekly inflation registered an increase of 0.42 percent from 129.93 points to 130.47 points and on annual basis it witnessed an increase of 16.94 percent from 115.57 points to 134.70 points.

For the monthly income group of Rs 22,889-29,517, SPI went up by 0.35 percent from 131.90 points to 132.36 points and on annual basis it went up by 19.99 percent from 110.31 points to 132.36 points. Weekly inflation for the income group with monthly income of Rs 29,518-44,175 went up by 0.28 percent from 129.09 points to 129.45 points and on annual basis SPI for the above income group went up by 19.35 percent from 108.46 points to 129.45 points.

For the income group of Rs 44,175 or above monthly income groups, weekly inflation went up by 0.09 percent from 133.08 points to 133.20 points and on annual basis SPI for the above income group went up by 16.79 percent from 114.05 points to 133.20 points.

During the week under review, average prices of 8 items registered decrease, while that of 16 items prices increased with the remaining 27 items' prices unchanged.

The items, which recorded increase in their average prices included garlic (lehsun), vegetable ghee Dalda/Habib or other superior quality, vegetable ghee Dalda/Habib 2.5 kg tin, cooking oil dalda or other similar brand (sn), onions, sugar refined, gur (average quality), pulse moong (washed), bananas (kela) local, tea prepared ordinary, firewood whole, bread plain (small size), rice irri-6/9 (Sindh/Punjab), mustard oil (average quality), pulse masoor (washed), mutton (average quality). The prices of commodities which registered decrease included tomatoes, eggs potatoes, LPG, wheat flour bag, chicken farm broiler, pulse gram, pulse mash (washed).

The prices of the commodities that observed no change in their price during the week under review included rice basmati broken, beef with bone, milk fresh, curd, powdered milk NIDO, salt powdered, chilies powder, tea Lipton yellow label, cooked daal, cigarettes capstan, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents sandal Bata, gents sponge chappal, ladies sandal Bata, electricity charges, gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU, energy saver Philips, Sufi washing soap, match box, petrol super, hi speed diesel telephone call charges toilet soap lifebuoy.
