  • Pakistan ranked 120 out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2019 .

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information (SAPM) Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan rejected the Transparency International's report regarding corruption in Pakistan saying that the report is biased.

In a report released by Transparency International on Thursday, Pakistan ranked 120 out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2019. On a scale of zero which is highly corrupt to 100 which is very clean, Pakistan managed to score only 32 in 2019 index. Pakistan scored 33 on the 2018 index.

Addressing the media, the SAPM questioned the transparency of the report and termed it as biased. She said even the masses rejected the report which apparently 'has been managed by the corruption kings sitting abroad'.

She said who could respect the findings of a report that says the most amount of corruption was done during the government of General Pervez Musharraf, followed by Imran Khan’s government and then by the Pakistan Peoples Party, placing the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz government at the very bottom.

She further said that the PM has never compromised in the fight against corruption and never will  do so in future, adding that the PTI government is committed to free the country of corruption and all the corrupt practices.
