India's remarks about 'having control' of AJK one day shows its frustration: FO

  • Such irresponsible and belligerent statements have potential to further escalate tensions, Pakistan said.
  • "India is obdurately committing state terrorism in IoK," FO said in a statement.
  • Pakistan called upon the international community to take note of India's 'aggressive posturing'.

Rejecting the irresponsible remarks made by the India regarding Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Pakistan said that the statement shows the neighbor's frustration over continued international censure it is receiving over its human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

On Tuesday, India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar claimed that AJK belongs to India and that he expects India to gain physical control over it one day. "Our position on AJK is, has always been and will always be very clear. It is part of India and we expect one day that we will have the jurisdiction, physical jurisdiction over it," Jaishankar said in a presser.

In a statement, the Foreign Office rejected the statement and said that India continues to unashamedly justify the violation of Kashmiris’ human rights. The statement read that India is obdurately committing state terrorism in the IoK and cannot divert international attention from its crimes against the innocent people by blaming Pakistan.

The statement added that India is also a unique and deplorable case of a state which 'promotes hate crimes against minorities and consistently fails to bring to account those who indulge in cow vigilantism, mob lynchings and forced conversions and are guilty of violating India’s own laws'.

Calling on the international community, Pakistan said that the world should take notice of India’s aggressive posturing about taking ‘physical jurisdiction’ of AJK. Pakistan warned that such irresponsible and belligerent statements have the potential to further escalate tensions and seriously jeopardise peace and security in the region.

"Instead of resorting to jingoistic rhetoric, India must rescind its illegal actions, stop forthwith grave human rights violations in IoJ&K, refrain from violating international law, and fully comply with UN Security Council resolutions for a final settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute," the FO statement added.
