KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation participated in the observance of World Earth Hour Day on Saturday by switching off lights of important buildings, parks, playgrounds and street lights from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.

This was in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed by Government of Sindh and KMC with the WWF during a ceremony, said a statement issued by KMC here on Saturday.

On behalf of Government of Sindh Minister for Environment Shaikh Muhammad Afzal and Secretary Environment Mir Hussain Ali while Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed on behalf of KMC singed the memorandum.

City of Karachi had been declared official city for this campaign aimed at saving energy resources. It is now observed in over 5,200 cities and towns of the world and in more than 135 countries.

All the speakers on the occasion stressed the need for saving energy by taking part in the World Earth Hour Day.
