IHC issues notice to NAB over Sharif’s bail plea in Al-Azizia case
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued on Tuesday notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and sought its reply over former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's plea seeking bail on medical grounds in the Al-Azizia case.
A bench comprising Judge Amir Farooq and Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani took up Sharif's bail plea. During the hearing today, the bench inquired about Sharif's health to which counsel Khawaja Haris presented the medical reports of his client.
The IHC also issued a notice to the NAB and sought its reply over Sharif's petition, local media reported. The hearing has been adjourned by the court for two weeks.
On Monday, the three-time premier had filed a petition in the high court seeking bail. The petition also contained medical reports of Sharif. According to the medical reports, doctors said that Sharif’s condition is quite critical. The doctors also claimed that Sharif is suffering from numerous diseases that can prove to be threatening to the incarcerated PM’s life.
The petition pleaded with the IHC to grant bail to Sharif and also suspend the sentence given to him.
