The people of 14 districts of Sindh province experienced another massive power breakdown of several hours during last 72 hours following discontinuation of power supply from National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) early Tuesday morning.
The spokesman for Hyderabad Electric Supply Company informed here on Tuesday that power supply was cut off from NTDC to all grid stations of Hesco region at about 4 am Tuesday. The Hesco system started receiving electricity from NTDC around 10 am and later the 11-KV Feeders of all grid stations have been energised gradually at from 12 noon, the spokesman informed.
The spokesman informed that today's hours long power breakdown in Hesco region was the continuation of the power failure as a result of falling of 16 towers of 500KV High Transmission Line between Guddu and Jamshoro a few days back which also affected the power generation frequency from Jamshoro to Karachi.
On the directives of the Ministry of Water and Power, the Hesco management is making all out efforts to provide maximum relief to consumers during the month of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak particularly during the timings of Sehri and Iftar, the spokesman claimed. Meanwhile, despite the claims of Hesco of maintaining power supply system during Sehri and Iftar, the majority of the people of the 14 districts of the region were forced to prepare Sehri in darkness as a result of power breakdown from Hesco.
In many areas, the people came out on roads and staged protest demonstration against the Hesco management by blocking the roads with setting old tyres and wooden crates on fire. Besides protest demonstrations, the meeting of the executive committee of Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry presided over by its President Muhammad Akram Ansari has strongly criticised the poor management of Hesco and demanded the government to take notice of such worst situation and provide sigh of relief to the citizens particularly the business community by ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
The meeting also demanded the government to restrict Hesco for carrying out unannounced load shedding during the month of Ramazan. The Hesco management should also replace the faulty power transformers at the earliest, the meeting demanded. The meeting further demanded the formation of committees at all operation sub-divisions of Hesco for addressing the grievances of the consumers.
President Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) Goharullah also expressed his deep concern over the hours long unannounced load shedding and breakdown in the region of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco). In a statement, he said that poor performance of Hesco in maintaining smooth electricity supply has been exposed with major power breakdown on the first day of Ramazan which deprived electricity to residents of 14 districts of Sindh province.
He said that HCCI always pointed out the loopholes in Hesco power distribution network, but the management concerned did not pay any heed to upgrade the system according to requirements which resulted great inconvenience to the power consumers as a result of frequent technical faults. There are the need of establishment of more grid stations and feeders in the Hesco region so that the management could cater the need of the people, he added. He appealed to State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali to realise the problems of the Sindh people and provide them sigh of relief by improving the network of power distribution system in Hesco region.
