Leaders of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) showed their political strength in Umer Kot district where they rallied thousands of supporters on Saturday. Former Chief Ministers Mumtaz Bhutto and Muzaffar Hussain Shah, leader of Pakistan Muslim League Functional Pir Sadruddin Rashidi, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, Awami Tahreek's leader Ayaz Latif Palijo and dissident of the PPP Dr Zulfiqar Mirza addressed the rally.
They lashed out at former President Asif Zardari and his sister for what they claimed huge financial corruption in Sindh province. They vowed to kick off a movement against the PPP's Sindh government. They said that a protest movement would be launched against the bad governance, lawlessness and corruption prevailing in Sindh. Earlier, they led a rally from Hyderabad to Umerkot via Tando Allah Yar and Mirpurkhas.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah downplayed the GDA's show of mass support saying that they would also fail like anti-PPP alliance did in late 1970s. On the other hand, provincial minister Manzoor Wassan said that jails were being cleaned for the GDA leaders.
