Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) will provide loan amounting to Rs ten thousand to one hundred thousand to the prisoners who will impart technical training in the jail. This loan will be given to them after release from jails to start their own business so that peace, promotion and prosperity in the province may be obtained as per vision of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
TEVTA is doing all its best efforts for the youth including prisoners to become them skilful across the province of the Punjab. Out of 13 Jails, demand driven courses are being started from 15 February, 2016 in 4 jails while short courses will also be launched in remaining 9 jails from 15 Mach, 2016. Development work to establish Technical Training centres in Jails is already continued.
An agreement between TEVTA and Home Department has already been signed and according to the agreement 6400 prisoners will be trained annually in 13 different jails across the province of the Punjab. It was stated by Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while meeting with Inspector General Prisons Mian Farooq Nazeer here yesterday at TEVTA Secretariat. Chief Operating Officer TEVTA Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, D.I.G. Jail Naveed Rauf and other officers were also present.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that at present, the mostly prisoners are unemployed and they do crime due to financial crises. After become skilful, they will earn in respectable manners and the crime rate will be reduced in the province. Technical training centres are being established in 9 Central Jails, 2 Women Jails and 2 Juvenile Jails including Central Jail Mianwali, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Kot Lakhpat Lahore, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Multan, DG Khan, Rawalpindi, Multan, Women Section District Jail Faisalabad, Brostal Jail Faisalabad and Brostal Jail Bahawalpur.
Chairperson TEVTA further said that the prisoners Male, Female and Juvenile undergoing sentence will be imparted demand driven vocational training in the fields of Home Appliances Repair, Electrician, Wood work-Carpenter, Beautician, Domestic Tailoring, Welder, Plumber, Motor Cycle Mechanic, Tractor Mechanic, Machine Embroidery, Computer Applications, Motor Winding, Fashion Designing, Hand Embroidery, Industrial Stitching. TEVTA will provide machinery, equipment, furniture, curriculum, training manuals and staff. Expenditures involved in Admission, Examinations and certifications will be borne by Home Department. Registration, their examinations and award of certifications of students/prisoners with PBTE/Trade Testing Board shall also be arranged by TEVTA.
