The Judicial Commission on judges' appointment on Thursday recommended names of two former judges, Tariq Pervez and Khilji Arif Hussain as ad hoc judges of the Supreme Court (SC). A meeting of the commission held at Lahore registry of SC also recommended appointment of Mohsin Kiyani and Aurangzeb Khan as additional judges of the Islamabad High Court.
The commission further approved confirmation of an additional judge of the IHC, Justice Amir Farooq. Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali headed the meeting. During the meeting, Yasin Azad, being a representative of bar, opposed the appointment of ad hoc judges. He was of the view that the SC in a famous case of Al-Jihad Trust had discouraged ad hoc appointments in judiciary. However, other members said that Article 182 of the Constitution authorised SC to appoint ad hoc judges in case of dire need. The commission forwarded its recommendations to Parliamentary Committee.
