Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz Monday said that growing involvement of Indian spy agency RAW in Fata insurgency and its subversive activities in other parts of Pakistan would be raised again before the intentional community. "India talks about non-state actors while Pakistan talks about its state actors' involvement in insurgent activities inside Pakistan," said Aziz told reporters after addressing the "United Nations 70; partnering for people's development" in connection with the 70th anniversary of UN.
He plainly said that RAW is behind the insurgency in FATA, Balochistan and Karachi via Afghanistan, adding international community should take notice of it as the tension between Pakistan and India is a threat to peace of the region. Pakistan has shared dossiers with the United Nations regarding India's involvement in insurgency in Fata, he said, adding that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would raise India's involvement during his upcoming visit to the US again.
He said that Samjhauta Express incident is unfortunate which caused inconvenience to passengers. Pakistani High Commissioner to India is providing all facilities to passengers while the Pakistanis having visa problems has also been raised with Indian external affairs ministry. The advisor said the world has accepted that Pakistan is a responsible country in respect to the nuclear programme. Despite billions of dollars offer, he added, Pakistan had not comprised on its nuclear programme nor would it do in future.
Aziz declared that peace can only be possible in Afghanistan if Afghan Taliban and the Afghan government resumed the stalled talks. Earlier, the United Nations System in Pakistan "United Nations 70: partnering for people's development" was inaugurated. It is a series of 16 events to raise awareness of the work of its 19 agencies, funds and programmes in the country.
The event at Lok Virsa marked the beginning of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. The event included the opening of a photo exhibition entitled "Pakistani People and the United Nations" documenting the work of the UN System in Pakistan together with a selection of historical photos showcasing the work of the UN System throughout the world in the past decades. High-level government representatives as well as representatives from the diplomatic corps and the United Nations participated in the event.
A special musical performance by the Envoy's Band was part of the festivities of the opening event: the Envoys' Band included Bosnian ambassador Nedim Makarevic at the electric guitar and vocals and Hiroshi Inomata, the Japanese ambassador, at the drums. The Advisor to the PM on National Security and Foreign Policy Sartaj Aziz was the chief guest on the occasion. Aziz congratulated the UN on the completion of 70 years and appreciated the work of UN and its agencies in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan participated in the UN peace mission since 1947 with 150,000 civilian and military personnel's services.
About 142 Pakistanis were martyred in the peace missions, said Aziz, adding that Pakistan would continue to play its role towards the UN objectives of peace and development. Neil Buhne, Resident Co-ordinator, United Nations Pakistan said the 70th anniversary of the United Nations provides an opportunity to look back at what has been accomplished through Pakistan's involvement with the UN, and to take stock of how the UN is helping Pakistan meet the current needs.
For the coming years, the Sustainable Development Goals offer an unprecedented opportunity for the UN to complement the work of the government to meet those goals and through that, peoples' aspirations for the future. Rodolfo Martin Saravia, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Argentine, extended his deepest support to the purposes and principles that inspired the creation of the UN, including the promotion of peace, of human rights and the social and economic development of mankind.
The "United Nations 70: partnering for people's development" festival offers a good opportunity for highlighting the role of the many stakeholders involved in the development and humanitarian work in Pakistan, including the government of Pakistan, Member States, donor agencies, civil society and the media. It also provides a platform to promote the values of the United Nations among the general public and to enhance outreach to the Pakistani youth by involving them in a number of educational projects.
