All Pakistan Textile Mills Association Chairman SM Tanveer has feared over the continuing decline in the textile exports this June. He said the textile sector exports had registered a significant decline in quantity terms during June against the corresponding period. "The exports of cloth have declined by 27.5 percent, followed by 12 percent in ready-made garments, 65 percent in art, silk and synthetic, 4.2 percent in towel and 32 percent yarn other than cotton yarn. The textile sector exports have registered downward growth by 2.65 percent in value terms this June."
He said his association had pointed out the drop in the exports and the reasons behind it to the government. "The association has recently put forward a seven-point proposal for early revival of the textile industry to overcome the dwindling exports," he said. "The seven-point proposal included zero rate regime for the textile industry, extension of the long-term finance scheme for ginning and spinning industry, exports refinance facility to the entire textile value chain on deemed export basis including spinning and weaving sub-sectors, announcement of a five-percent export incentive to capture non-traditional markets, special electricity tariff for textile industry and strengthening of domestic commerce by introducing Tariff/NT measures for countering informal trade and dumped imports." He has urged the premier to review and meet the textile industry representatives for early revival of the industry.
