The computerised personal assistant field - currently dominated by Apple's Siri and Google's Now - is going to get a little more crowded now that Microsoft has plans to bring its assistant, Cortana, to market with versions for both Windows and iOS.
Timed to coincide with the launch of Windows 10 in the third quarter, it will also come with an app that makes it compatible with iPhones and Android smartphones. However, the full range of functions will be limited to Windows Phone smartphones. For example, Cortana will not be able to change settings on iOS or Android devices. Voice activation of programmes will also be limited to Windows PCs and smartphones.
