The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, in collaboration with University of California, is revising courses under the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) in food security and agriculture in order to bring them at par with international standards. In the first phase, veterinary and engineering courses are being revised for the uplift of the sector.
This was stated by UAF Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan during his visit to different faculties of the university on Thursday. He said that under the CAS, three million dollars would be spent on research through competitive grants aimed at rural and agriculture development, as poverty alleviation was directly linked to this sector. He said quality education, research, strong academia-industry linkages and transformation of knowledge into goods and services were essential to address the issues of common man.
He urged the scientists to come up with out-of-the-box solutions to increase productivity and fight food insecurity. He said that the UAF was meant for uplift of agriculture sector and rural development with the help of trained manpower, research and outreach programmes. He further said that the country was blessed with tremendous resources, which needed to be tapped. Talking about social issues, he said that the country's population had crossed 180 million people, which he added was an area of concern. He congratulated the faculty members for becoming the first-ever Pakistani university to be ranked among the top hundred best universities of the world.
