A delegation comprising more than 25 diplomats and senior officials called on Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Islamabad and after appreciating the steps taken by the KP provincial government for bringing reforms, particularly in police and prisons, offered maximum financial and technical assistance.
The diplomats also termed the crucial role of the provincial government for running the internal situation in a better manner for arresting the negative impact on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the anarchy affected Afghanistan and protecting it from terrorism.
The participants of the delegation were included representatives of Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank (WB), DFID, USAID, GIZ, KFW, Swiss SDC, UNDP, JICA, Aus-Aid, European Union, Norway, Canada, the Netherlands, mission heads, country directors and senior diplomats. Additional Chief Secretary Dr Hammad Owais Agha, Secretary Home & Tribal Affairs Arbab Mohammad Arif, former IGP Fayyaz Toru and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
The diplomats and mission heads appreciated the steps taken by the provincial government for change, strict implementation of transparent policies and anti-corruption measures and particularly guaranteeing of transparent utilisation of foreign assistance.
The chief minister expressed gratitude to relief agencies and friendly countries for including the KP provincial government in their priorities and said that the KP government for ensuring law and order, reforms in prisons, lessening burden on courts and cut in cases, stability in policing and their equipping with modern equipment and instruments successfully.
Welcoming the offer of the delegation for provision of assistance for the capacity building of police, prisons, judiciary and establishment of criminal justice system, further prisons reforms and other affairs announced the constitution of a high-level committee, which besides, representatives of donors will also be comprised of ACS, Secretary Home, IG (Police & Prisons), Fayyaz Toru and others concerned authorities, which will monitor progress on regular basis.
