Batsman Younis Khan has rejected speculations pertaining to his retirement immediately after the World Cup-2015 saying the retirement of any player should not be made controversial.
"I have no plans to quit limited-overs cricket after the World Cup, as long as I am fit I will continue to be available to play both one-day internationals and test matches," Younis said while talking to media here at Qaddafi Stadium Thursday.
"How come you know that it's my last World Cup" Younis responded this when a media man posed a query. "Whenever I feel my body is not allowing me to play, only then I will retire," he said.
Younis Khan said he would be happy if bat at No.3 in the upcoming mega event. "I wanted to emulate the performance of former captain Imran Khan, who also pushed himself up the order during Pakistan's successful campaign in the 1992 World Cup," he said, adding: "My whole batting changed when I started batting at No. 3 position in 2004. I will be very happy if I could replicate Imran's batting in this World Cup."
Younis said any cricket team gives results when boys excel in every department of the game and show outstanding performance in all departments of the game.
On Pakistan's chances of winning the World Cup, Younis Khan said that all top teams had an equal chance of winning the event and the team which is better prepared and played as a unit will win. Like Australia, Pakistan cricket team had also chances of winning the mega event, he said.
Younis also praised Misbah ul Haq for bringing stability to the Pakistan team. He said that Misbah's decision to retire from ODI's should be appreciated and he deserves an honourable send off. He also praised Shahid Afridi for strengthening the team.
Praising Misbah, Younis said, "It's an honour for me to share the dressing room with good players (Misbah & Afridi). He added: "The way they both have served the nation, it's amazing. We should appreciate and respect their decision."
Younis Khan who scored 7,177 runs in 259 ODIs with seven centuries and 48 half centuries at an average of 31.75, said, "I had not scored a test century against Australia before the series against them in the United Arab Emirates, but I scored two centuries and also a double century. I hope I will carry the same form in the World Cup."
