Two alleged militants associated with a banned outfit were killed in a police encounter while in another incident two police constables were killed by unidentified armed men in the city, here on Sunday. According to police and rescue sources, two policemen, Abdul Hafiz son of Haji Malang and Khudadad son of Muhammad Din were shot and killed by unidentified men during an armed clash between gangster groups in Lyari's Jahanabad in the jurisdictions of Pak Colony police station.
The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities. ASI Ghaffar told Business Recorder that constable Hafiz was recently dismissed from service after he was found associated with a Lyari gangster group.
Police sources said two militants of a banned outfit were killed in the exchange of gunfire in Orangi Town area of Rahim Shah Colony. Police conducted a raid in the area on a tip off about their presence and killed two members of a banned outfit in an encounter.
Two hand grenades and two TT pistols were recovered from the possession of the militants. The bodies were shifted to CHK for post-mortem examination.
An alleged robber was killed by police in an encounter in Mithadar area. Police said that some three robbers entered in a rice shop for robbery. A nearby police mobile was informed by a passer-by about the robbers. The police men rushed to the shop and an encounter ensured, wherein a robber was killed. However, his two accomplices managed to flee from the scene.
Police also recovered a pistol from the criminal. The body was shifted to CHK for medico-legal formalities.
Unknown gunmen targeted SSP Naveed Khwaja in Clifton area. According to reports, Khwaja was travelling in his vehicle when bike riders opened fire. The officer remained safe in the attack.
A man Muhammad Riaz, 36, son of Habibullah, was injured while offering resistance in a robbery bid at Gabol town near Country Tower. The criminals fired 2 bullets on his car resultantly he suffered bullet injury in elbow. The injured was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a man, Iftikhar, 22, son of Abdul Rehman, was injured by unknown armed men near Islamia Hall in Solder Market.
Fahad Shaikh, 25, son of Shaikh Ahmed, was injured by unknown armed men at University Road. The injured was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
