The Lahore High Court here on Wednesday set aside the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) quota-based admission policy in MBBS and ruled that it was the violation of fundamental right. Sadia and Asma Javed and others, candidates for MBBS have filed the petitions.
The petitioners submitted that they had secured good marks in FSc but they were refused admission in MBBS. They were intentionally deprived of admission as the University of Health Sciences secretly imposed the quota-based admission policy under which 50 per cent seats were allocated to male and same were reserved for female students. They further said the university did this only to discourage the female students from getting admission in MBBS.
Their counsel said the Supreme Court had already ruled that the MBBS admission should not be based on quota system. They prayed the court to restrain the UHS from imposing quota policy. The court after hearing the arguments annulled the PMDC quota-based policy.
