Inmates on death row: CJP decides to constitute larger bench to hear cases

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasirul Mulk on Wednesday decided to constitute a larger bench to hear cases regarding inmates on death row across the country. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk resumed the hearing on a petition filed by Watan Party's Barrister Zafarullah urging the court to seek explanation from the government over the inordinate and inexplicable delay in execution of the prisoners on death row.
Barrister Zafarullah apprised the court that besides heinous crime of murder there were 27 offences, legally punishable to death in Pakistan He requested the court to order release of the prisoners on death row if the government did not want to proceed with execution. However, the Chief Justice questioned that under which law the inmates should be released. Hearing of the case was adjourned for indefinite period.
