ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar Tuesday visited Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and expressed satisfaction over the healthcare services being provided to the incoming patients.

The CJP along with Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood visited different departments of the hospital including Cardiac Centre, Children Hospital, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre, Labour Rooms, washrooms, Surgical ward, Children emergency, Private ward,. Paediatrics nursery, security system, Head Injury unit, Thalassemia and Hemophilia Center, BMT Office, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).

The CJP said he will visit again after two or three months to examine whether the hospital administration has maintained the standard of the services.

He said if there is any issue of donation to run the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit or any other patient care, he promised to pay donation from himself.

He said he visited several hospitals of the country but he found improvements in PIMS. He added the addition of new wards at PIMS is also good improvement and expressed the hope that PIMS administration will address the patients’ complaints.

The CJP said now government officers should come to PIMS rather going to private hospitals like Shifa International Hospital. He directed the ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division to support the hospital with regard to issuance of funds whenever required.

He said hospitals like PIMS should make more efforts to restore the confidence of the patients who visit hospitals with different medical complications.

“I want to improve the standard of hospitals so that patients may get relief from public hospitals. I am hopeful that with the passage of time, things will improve in the hospitals.”

The CJP said all the house officers from private medical colleges, who were doing house jobs anywhere will be paid from their private medical colleges.

On the occasion, he has made Health Reporter Razia Khan as focal person with task to collect 10 samples of different medicines randomly from PIMS, Federal Government Poly Clinic and Rawalpindi hospitals and submit to the Supreme Court to check the standard of these medicines.

Executive Director PIMS Dr Amjad Mehmood, Deputy Executive Director Dr Zulfiqar Ghori and heads of different departments were also present during the visit of CJP.

ED of PIMS Dr Amjad Mehmood briefed the CJP about functioning of different sections of the hospital and service delivery system.

He apprised the CJP that several steps have been taken for improving the healthcare standard, maintaining clean atmosphere and ensuring best patients registration system.

He assured the CJP that all remaining complaints of patients will be addressed. “If I fail to resolve these issues within 12 to 18 months I will resign from my office," the ED PIMS added.
