Taiwan stocks rose 0.25 percent on Monday morning, largely in line with other regional and global markets as investors await a raft of corporate earnings data this week. As of 0200 GMT, the main TAIEX index was up 23.49 points at 9,519.58, after falling 0.72 percent in the previous session. Corporate earnings from overseas, including those of major US banks, are expected this week, as are second-quarter earnings from domestic tech giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd, which was up 0.75 percent.
Other Taiwan tech names showing big moves included smartphone maker HTC Corp, which gained 4.15 percent, and flat-panel maker AU Optronics, which rose 6.18 percent. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer, rose 2.29 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.068 at T$29.922 to the US dollar.
