Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Pakistan), has tailored an ambitious plan to improve quality of all programmes and efforts would be made for revival of medium waves transmission at various stations in the country. This was stated by Director General Samina Pervaiz while talking to media persons during a Guest Hour program, organized by Peshawar Press Club here on Monday.
She said that medium waves transmission would be revived in Karachi, Multan, Hyderabad, Larakana and other stations. She furthered said that Radio Pakistan has its unique history and played a key role in creating awareness among the masses besides providing recreational and entertainment programmes coupled with most popular Urdu drama studded with hourly new bulletins.
The DG said that still Radio commands majority audience world-wide and will continue to dominate in the days to come as it reaches at such far flung places where no other means of communication is available. She added the transmission of Radio Pakistan has been covered 95 per cent, while efforts would be made to cover rest of five per cent area in the middle of the next year.
She said that the two-high power transmission had installed with assistance of United States in D.I.Khan, and Peshawar, while the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is also supporting them for improving and up-gradation of the system. We have planned to upgrade radio stations in Lahore and Islamabad, and Karachi very soon, while the Peshawar Radio station would also be upgraded gradually, Ms Samina said.
The DG said that all out efforts will be made on top priority that all listeners must have access to Radio Pakistan and for this purpose, high capacity transmitters will be installed nation-wide in a phased programme. Samina Pervaiz said that Radio Pakistan will continue to dominate as family channel without compromising its quality and decency. She said that Radio Pakistan is the only channel in whole of the country which airs all its programmes in all regional languages as well. The Radio Pakistan had been broadcasted more than 52 dramas of various regional languages, including Urdu. She said the steps have been taken to make radio Pakistan website more informative, through which transmission being on aired for listeners in Pakistan and rest part of the country.
Ms Samina said that FM 93, 94 and 101 are also made available on internet through satellite network. She said that the quality of world, external and foreign services will also be further improved to meet the demands of listeners. She added a state-of art news room would be established by equipping with all modern facilities.
To a query about very nominal fees to temporary staff members of Radio Pakistan, like translator and newscasters, she replied that they are revamping the fee-structure. She, however, said that the wages have been given to employees according to talent and experience base.
