Anti-polio campaign: 227,300 children to be vaccinated in Bajaur

A three-day anti polio drive in Bajaur agency will start from Monday in which 227,300 children below the age of five would be vaccinated for polio infection across the region. Talking to reporters during press briefing here, Agency Surgeon Bajaur.
Dr Zakir Hussain said that the health department in collaboration with the local political administration has finalized all the arrangements for the drive.
The health official said that 1590 health workers and support staff will take part in the drive while special monitoring teams had also been formed to ensure the success of the campaign. "We have formed several teams comprising senior health officials for monitoring activities after local complaint against the efficiency of polio workers," he added.
Dr Hussain said the local health department on the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor has step up its efforts to eradicate polio disease in the agency and all possible means are being used for the purpose. He said the administration and the security forces have made foolproof security arrangements for the health workers to avoid any unpleasant incident during the drive. He said that personnel of levies force, security officials of Bajaur scouts and volunteers of village defence committees will be deployed with every polio teams to protect them from any terror happening.
