Pakistan Army will continue relief operation in earthquake-hit areas of Awaran and Mashkay with the help of local administration and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). An ISPR spokesman said that relief operation by security forces would continue despite repeated firing and rocket attacks by miscreants on rescue and relief teams. He said that security forces were in the area only for relief operation.
He further asked the people that they should not pay any attention to the propaganda campaign launched by miscreants who were asking locals to leave the area due to an impending operation by security forces. He said there was no truth in such news.
Army and Levies personnel were attacked by militants in Mashkay and Awaran. The attack in Mashkay left one person dead and two others injured. The armed men opened indiscriminate fire on a vehicle carrying Levies personnel in Jhaljaho area of Mashkay tehsil. They intercepted the vehicle, badly beaten the Levies personnel and after snatching their weapons escaped.
In another attack in Mashkay, militants fired rockets and bullets on army personnel distributing relief goods and carrying out rehabilitation activities in earthquake-hit areas. The earthquake-affected people, especially women, children and the elderly, are facing hardships due to hurdles in distribution of relief goods and slow pace of rehabilitation. A powerful earthquake struck south-west Balochistan where 90 percent of the houses were flattened to ground and more than 300000 people were affected.
