ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, restored Muhammad Imran as chief executive officer (CEO) Genco Holding Company Limited (GHCL).
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard Imran’s appeal against the Sindh High Court (SHC) judgment.
The bench issued notices to the parties.
Justice Ijaz expressing surprise over the SHC judgment and said what kind of judgment had been passed by the High Court.
The Additional Attorney General informed that the SHC had relied upon the Supreme Court judgment on Pakistan International Airlines.
Upon that, Justice Ijaz remarked where in the PIA judgment it has been written that the national airline head should be a pilot.
He said the job of chief executive officer PIA is to run the organisation and not to fly planes.
The judge said similarly, the job of the Genco is to run the institution and it is not mandatory that he should be an engineer.
He questioned whether the job of the Genco’s head is to run turbines or the department.
The chief justice said that the government has not asked the department employees for the appointment of its head.
He said that the employees should not have any concern regarding the appointment of the department’s head.
The SHC had ordered the removal of CEO Genco Holding Company Limited (GHCL) Muhammad Imran on the grounds that he is holding the post of a professional engineer, while being a chartered accountant.
