ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s trade deficit widened by 30.56 percent to $27.488 billion in July-May 2020-21 compared to $21.054 billion in July-May 2019-20, says the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Trade figures shows that country’s imports remained $50.048 billion during July-May 2020-21 compared to $40.849 billion in July-May 2019-20 registering 22.52 percent growth.

The country’s exports witnessed 13.97 percent growth and remained $22.56 billion in July-May 2020-21 compared to $19.795 billion in July-May 2019-20.

Pakistan’s trade deficit widened by a massive 149.49 percent on year-on-year basis to $3.645 billion in May 2021 compared to $1.461 billion in May 2020.

According to the PBS, trade figures showed that the country’s exports registered 18.48 percent increase in May 2021 and stood at $1.654 billion compared to $1.396 billion in May 2020.

The country’s imports remained $5.299 billion in May 2021 compared to $2.857 billion in May 2020 registering 85.47 percent growth.

Trade deficit widened by 19.86 percent to $3.645 billion in May 2021 compared to $3.041 billion in April 2021.

Pakistan’s exports decreased by 25.46 percent and stood at $1.654 billion in May 2021 against $2.219 billion in April 2021.

The country’s imports remained $5.299 billion in May 2021 compared to $5.260 billion in April 2021 registering 0.74 percent growth.
