ISLAMABAD: The government, on Thursday, unblocked the TikTok app in the country in pursuance of the orders of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

The Pakistan Telecomm-unication Autho-rity (PTA) spokesperson told Business Recorder that in pursuance of the orders of the PHC, the PTA has issued directions to the service providers to unblock access to the TikTok app.

However, the TikTok app management has been told to ensure that vulgar and objectionable content are to be made inaccessible in accordance with the (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act) provisions and directions of the Court, the official added.

The PHC has directed to unblock the app, after the hearing of a case pertaining to TikTok.

The TikTok app was made inaccessible on March 11, 2021.

TikTok spokesperson in Pakistan said, “We are pleased that TikTok is once again available to our community in Pakistan. This is a testament to TikTok’s continued commitment to enforcing our Community Guidelines to promote a safe and positive community online. The creativity and passion of this community has brought joy to households across Pakistan and provided a home for incredibly talented creators. TikTok is excited to be able to continue enabling Pakistani voices and creativity as we work to support the success story of Pakistan.”

“We want to acknowledge PTA’s support and ongoing productive dialogue, and recognize their care for the digital experience of Pakistani users, which goes a long way to assuring a stable, enabling environment to allow us to explore further investment in Pakistan and to keep open vital economic opportunities for Pakistani creators through TikTok.”
