ISLAMABAD: Sugar, eggs and powder chilli prices have registered an increase over this week past as compared to the previous week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday.

The survey noted an increase of Rs30 per 49.5kg bag of sugar as the commodity price jumped from Rs4,720 per bag to Rs4,750 per bag which is being sold at Rs100 to Rs103 per kg.

Egg prices, both in wholesale as well as in retail markets witnessed a further increase as it went up from Rs4,500 per carton to Rs4,850 per carton which in retail are being sold in the range of Rs170-175 per dozen against Rs165-170 per dozen.

The traders told this correspondent that powder chilli price witnessed an increase of Rs3,000 per 40kg bag in wholesale markets jumping up from Rs24,000 per 40kg to Rs27,000 per 40kg, which in retail has crossed Rs700 per kg mark and is available at Rs750 per kg against RS650 per kg.

They said that within past one year powder, chilli price has witnessed an increase of Rs18,000 per 40kg as it was available at Rs9,000 per 40kg a year ago and now Rs27,000 per 40kg.

However, chicken price during the week under review has witnessed a reduction of Rs1,200 per 40kg falling from Rs9,400 per 40kg to Rs8,200 per 40kg which in retail is being sold at Rs220 per kg against Rs270 per kg, while chicken meat price went down from Rs460 per kg mark to Rs350 per kg.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices went up as LPG domestic cylinder of 15kg price increased from Rs,2100 per cylinder to Rs2,400 per cylinder which was reduced just a week ago.

Besides, prices of all the brands of detergents have witnessed an increase as one kg detergent price has increased from Rs300 per pack to Rs320 per pack. Basin price also increased from Rs3,800 per 40kg to Rs5,000 per 40kg.

The prices of pulses remained stable as moong pulse in wholesales is available at Rs9,200 per 40kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs240 per kg. The price of Maash pulse is Rs10,600 per 40kg which in retail is being sold at Rs280 per kg, best quality lentil at Rs6,000 per 40kg which in retail is being sold at Rs170 per kg.

Best quality bean lentil at Rs9,500 per 40kg bag which in retail is being sold at Rs260 per kg, masoor pulse at Rs6,000 per 40kg which in retail is being sold at Rs170 per kg, and best quality whole gram at Rs6,000 per 40kg which in retail is being sold at Rs160 per kg.

Cooking oil and ghee prices during the week under review remained unchanged which within past three months have witnessed massive hike as best quality ghee/cooking oil prices have increased by Rs110 per kg from Rs250 per kg to Rs360 per kg, while B-grade ghee/cooking oil price increased by Rs70 per pack of 900 grams from Rs160 to Rs230 per pack.

A comparison of the prevailing market prices with the prices computed by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) revealed a serious differences as PBS has mentioned sugar price at Rs98.36 per kg which in market on average is available at Rs101.5 per kg, similarly PBS mentioned Dalda ghee/cooking oil price Rs1,495 per 5kg tin while in market is being sold Rs1,565 per 5kg tin.

The PBS mentioned wheat flour price of Rs977.70 per 20kg bag but in market it is available at Rs1,330 per 20kg bag.

Fresh milk price at Rs107.33 per kg while in market it is being sold at Rs125 per kg, cooked daal plate at average hotel is available at Rs95 per plate against PBS mentioned price of Rs77.83 per plate, mutton in rural areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad is available at Rs1,100 per kg while PBS has mentioned it at Rs1,001.74 per kg, while in urban areas of the twin cities mutton is being sold at Rs1,250 per kg.
