KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Ifitikhar Ali Shallwani on Thursday said that the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic is not over, suggesting that Rs1000 fine should be imposed on the people each who don't wear mask. He said that the country has not won fight against coronavirus and still have to adopt precautionary measures or else there would be serious consequences.

"I suggest that Rs1000 fine should be imposed on the people each who don't wear mask," the Administrator passed these remarks while addressing inauguration ceremony of Dr Esa Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre here as a chief guest.

Consul Generals of different countries, Dr Farhan Esa and others were also present on the occasion. The Administrator said that physiotherapy is recognised as cure of many diseases at international level. "We should learn from the past instead of remaining in the past. We have to take Karachi forward, business community should cooperate with Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for betterment in the city," he added.

He said that there was dire need to resolve three chronic issues: water scarcity, lack of transport and collapsed sewerage system in the city. He was of the view some people follow standard operating procedures but there are a large number of citizens who don't bother to follow SOPs, urging that we have to show some responsibility and keep us and our beloved ones safe from the deadly virus.

Shallwani said that coronavirus had done damage across the world and Pakistan is also amongst the countries where Covid-19 is once again spreading. "Prevention is the best way as we can defeat any disease by adopting preventive measures," he added. The Administrator said that joint pain and bone diseases are common in Karachi and these can be cured through physiotherapy.
